President, ServiceMaster Clean, Merry Maids, AmeriSpec and Furntiure Medic
Thomas Coba joined The ServiceMaster Company in November, 2011 as president of ServiceMaster Clean, MerryMaids, AmeriSpec and Furniture Medic.
Coba is responsible for 6,375 franchises and international licenses in 33 countries, 82 branches and 31,000 team members operating under the ServiceMaster Clean, Merry Maids, AmeriSpec and Furniture Medic brands. These brands hold market-leading positions in residential and commercial cleaning, disaster restoration, home inspections and furniture repair, respectively.
Coba joined ServiceMaster with a strong track record of growth and outstanding executive experience at three of the world’s largest franchise-based companies. He served as chief operating officer of Subway Restaurants in Milford, Conn., the world’s largest quick-service restaurant chain. Subway has over 35,000 locations operating in 99 countries, and approximately $16 billion in annual sales.
While at Subway Coba added more than $7.7 billion in new revenues and increased both same-store sales and franchise profitability seven years in a row. Coba also has a wealth of experience in market expansion, opening 13,000 new restaurants and remodeling 13,900 locations during his tenure.
Coba’s accomplishments at Subway included a technology strategy that included development and launch of an online university, as well as the rollout of electronic gift cards and high-speed credit/debit processing. He also had a lead role in the launch of the chain’s new breakfast menu and implementation of a customer feedback initiative. He also led a number of retail technology initiatives, including software management tools to increase franchisee sales and profits.
Prior to joining Subway, Coba spent 20 years at Dunkin’ Brands, Inc., of Canton, Mass., a leading franchiser that operates the Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-Robbins and Togo’s chains. At Dunkin’ Brands, Coba held a number of executive roles in operations, real estate, development, construction, franchising and concept innovation, and he was eventually promoted to vice president of franchising and new business development. As senior market executive for the Northeast Division, he oversaw 950 retail stores with annual sales of $800 million and led a team of 18 executives in operations, development, construction, franchising and training. He also was responsible for marketing strategy, and his division led the country in profit growth for three consecutive years, while opening more than 50 new locations per year.
Prior to Dunkin’ Brands, Coba led a multi-unit McDonald's franchise in the Boston area where he had direct P&L responsibility and oversight for all aspects of the business, including operations, new store openings and remodels.
He graduated from Tufts University in Medford, Mass. with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and biology.
Chief Operating Officer, Merry Maids
Brent Armstrong, chief operating officer, Merry Maids began his career for ServiceMaster working part-time during high school & college for Merry Maids and ServiceMaster Clean franchisees. A Wheaton College graduate in 1991, he was then employed by ServiceMaster Management Services.
Looking to fuel his entrepreneurial spirit, Brent purchased his first franchise in 1992. Brent and his wife Stacey owned several ServiceMaster Clean and Merry Maids franchisees in the Chicago, Ill., and Buffalo, N.Y. area. Brent then joined the ServiceMaster Clean Home Office staff in September 2002 as Director of Residential Services, driving the strategy for more than 1,100 domestic and international residential franchises.
Brent assumed leadership for the Furniture Medic brand in 2005 where he served as vice president and general manager. Following two successful years of growth for Furniture Medic, Brent then added the responsibility of the AmeriSpec brand in 2007.
Brent brings an understanding for franchising as well as a tremendous knowledge of the residential marketplace. During his tenure with the franchise services group, Brent has led the charge in innovation for scheduling, business development and most recently spearheaded the energy initiative for the AmeriSpec brand.
Vice President of Marketing
Stefan Figley serves Merry Maids as Vice President of Marketing, setting the tone for the brand presence in the marketplace. Stefan’s team is committed to building the brand by supporting franchise owners and internal partners with the best marketing tools while in turn enhancing Merry Maids reputation as a world-class sales and service organization.
Stefan draws on valuable experience in brand management and global one-to-one marketing, while working for Leo Burnett, a Chicago-based advertising agency known for working with national clients like Kellogg's, Procter & Gamble, Coca Cola and more. While working at Leo Burnett, Stefan developed and operated customer relationship management (CRM) hubs in Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Before joining Merry Maids, Stefan served as Director of Marketing for sister brand Terminix since joining ServiceMaster in 2006. Stefan has a proven track record with digital and direct mail marketing, having received the ECHO award three times, which is an annual international award presented by the Direct Marketing Association to honor direct mail campaigns that have raised the bar in terms of strategy, creativity and results. Stefan has also been awarded an Effie, an award for one of the most impactful marketing campaigns in a calendar year helping round out his overall marketing experience.
Vice President of Franchise Operations
Micah is responsible for training, continuous improvement, and he oversees the Resource Center, Merry Maids' product and equipment supply department.
He has been with ServiceMaster for more than 17 years and joined Merry Maids in 1997 as one of three regional managers for the company-owned locations. He then moved into the role of senior director of operations supporting both franchise owners and branch managers.
In 2002, Micah accepted the position as Merry Maids' first Six Sigma Black Belt and Deployment Champion. He was certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt in November 2003. Micah has led Merry Maids' continuous improvement activities, training and oversees many of our pilots and metric development.
"My role is to provide our organization -- franchise owners to team members -- with the right training, processes, and equipment to do their work efficiently and exceed our customers' expectations," Micah says. "It's all about giving people what they need to be their best."
Micah grew up in Indiana, where he earned his bachelor's degree from Taylor University, and he later earned a M.B.A. from Oklahoma City University.
