Alys GrissomA Heartfelt Voice — Betty de Aragon's Story

Hi! My name is Betty de Aragon, and I am a heart disease survivor.

I was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a heart problem consisting of four serious defects. I was a “blue baby,” because my heart defects kept my blood from getting adequate oxygen. A Blalock -Taussig shunt was placed to help my heart increase blood flow to the lungs. After three open-heart surgeries and regular cardiologist visits, I have maintained a healthy lifestyle.

Physical activity and moderation in physical exertion have also always been part of my routine. But taking care not to exceed my limits hasn’t prevented me from enjoying life. I have to listen to my body, but I’ve done everything I’ve wanted, including skiing and dancing until dawn.

I’m very passionate about research the AHA does because without it, I may not have been able to survive. The money you contributed from Merry Maids’ campaign efforts will allow the American Heart Association to continue with important research, education, and programs like Go Red For Women that save hundreds of lives like mine every day.

I want to personally say thank you, Merry Maids, for your nationwide campaign and for your ongoing support of the American Heart Association and Go Red For Women.

With heart,
Betty
