Denise and Joe Litzelman started Merry Maids of Charlotte in 1995, and the Litzelman family celebrated twenty-one years of ownership this past May. The Litzelmans started their Merry Maids franchise with three goals: to provide quality cleanings to clients, to give those same clients the customer service of a family business with the security of national franchise standards, and to provide their employees with a steady, happy work environment. The Litzelmans stayed true to their family values when their daughter Jenny joined the business in 2011. Jenny shares the same goals and values as her parents, and works to keep Merry Maids relevant to evolving client needs.
In addition to Denise and Jenny in the office, the Merry Maids staff also includes franchise manager Karolina and personnel supervisor Diana. The office staff at Merry Maids are ready to answer any and all questions you may have. Our priority is to make sure you have an outstanding experience with us and trust us with your home. In order to gain that trust Merry Maids does extensive screening of all employees. Our screening process includes E-verify, drug testing, criminal background checks, and motor vehicle checks.

Each year, our corporate office asks each franchisee to submit a “Team Member of the Year” for their office. This is an opportunity to recognize an employee who is a champion for their clients, and a real leader and team player. Of 241 applications a top 15 was selected, and then the overall winner. We have been blessed to have had two top 15 employees in 2014 & 2015, Dilsia and Wanda. Now, in 2016 we have been notified that Marcela was not only top 15 but won the award of Team Member of the Year! Team Member of the Year is a true reflection of the hard work of our employees and we are so very proud of Marcela. Professionally clean residential homes using unique cleaning procedures and products while performing cleaning in conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness. The ideal candidate will provide world class customer service when interacting with customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
In a Housekeeping position with Merry Maids, you will be responsible for:
- Using cleaning products and procedures to clean residential homes
- Sweeping , vacuuming , and washing all hard surface floors on hands and knees
- Cleaning all hanging light fixtures, baseboards and windowsills each visit
- Moving all reasonably portable furniture in rooms to clean under and behind
- Performing customer service and quality control
- Resolving customer issues before leaving home
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance

The Humane Society of Charlotte
Merry Maids of Charlotte is a proud sponsor of the Humane Society. Owners Denise and Jenny Litzelman both own rescue pets. Denise’s dog Chloe and Jenny’s cat Zen came from the Humane Society in 2012 and 2014. Chloe makes frequent visits to the Merry Maids office and is loved by all staff. Merry Maids has a real passion for four-legged family members. In 2013 and 2014 Merry Maids sponsored the annual festival Pet Palooza, which helped raise funds for Humane Society needs such as spay and neuter clinics, medication, food, toys, and other items needed for the animals. In 2015 Merry Maids was a proud Gold Collar Sponsor at the annual Ties & Tails Gala benefiting homeless pets. Merry Maids of Charlotte greatly values its relationship with the Humane Society and looks forward to participating in future events.
Butler High School Men’s Lacrosse
Merry Maids is a proud community partner with Butler Men's Lacrosse. As a club sport, the team represents their school and the sport is sanctioned in North Carolina as a high school sport, but the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System does not fund them as an official sport. To have a team, they must raise the money themselves to fund their season. The team includes members of the school leadership groups such as Student Council, Butler Dream Team, and they can claim one of the highest Team GPAs in the school.
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte
When Merry Maids owner Joe Litzelman heard that the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte would open its doors to the families of sick children in 2011, he knew that Merry Maids of Charlotte would be right there to help. Joe developed a close relationship with the Ronald McDonald House, attending meetings before its doors were open to the public. Joe had a vision. Merry Maids would donate its services to the house and its many guest room because he knew how important it was for the families of sick children to have a nice space to come home to after a long day at the hospital. Merry Maids cleaned the RMH every day, Monday-Friday. On particularly busy days at Merry Maids, Joe would clean the rooms himself when no staff was available to donate their time.
Joe greatly valued his relationship with the RMH and became very close with the staff, volunteers, and families. After Joe’s unexpected passing in 2012 the staff at the Ronald McDonald House erected a plaque in his honor which can still be seen at the house today.
