Bedroom Cleaning Checklist

Save the date. If you don’t schedule time to clean your bedroom, chances are you’ll put it off again and again and again… You see where this is going. So when thinking about how to clean the bedroom fast, you want to make sure you put it on your calendar. Otherwise, it may never get done.

Be realistic. If you’re trying to figure out how to clean the bedroom fast, you need to keep in mind that this won’t be the day to organize your closet or your shoe collection. Avoid the temptation to color code your wardrobe, or you’ll get lost in the closet for hours and may not make it all the way down this bedroom cleaning checklist.

Gather supplies. You’ll need a laundry basket, microfiber cloths, a dust mop, a clean towel and a vacuum cleaner.

Relocate duvet covers and comforters. Cleaning duvet covers and comforters usually takes a special trip to the laundromat or cleaners, so you won’t find that time-consuming step on this bedroom cleaning checklist. However, you do want to place these bedcovers in another room so they don’t get dusty as you clean.

Do some tidying. Pick up any clothes or shoes that may not have been put back in their proper places and put those away or banish them to the laundry room. Then clear your dressers and nightstands. Put any books or magazines you’re not currently reading back on the shelf. Any items that have a permanent place on dressers and tabletops—such as family photos or jewelry boxes—can be placed in one corner of the room. Cover these with your clean towel. You’ll see why in the next step.

Clean up. Using your dust mop, wipe the upper corners of your bedroom and along the area where your ceiling meets the walls. The goal here is to remove any dust that’s accumulated, along with unsightly cobwebs.

Wipe down surfaces. It’s best to dry-dust furniture, and you can do this using your microfiber cloth. Simply wipe all the surfaces until there’s no dust left. If you want to give your furniture a little polish afterwards, you can do this with a clean microfiber cloth. Moisten the cloth with water and wring it out well before getting started. After you’ve cleaned and polished all of your room’s surfaces, use a fresh microfiber cloth to wipe down the items you’ve stowed in the corner before putting them back in place.

Strip the bed. Your sheets and pillowcases are probably a bit dusty by now. Strip those and load them in the washing machine. Don’t replace them with fresh bed linens just yet. You’re almost there, but there’s one thing you have to do first.

Vacuum. Give your room a good vacuuming. Remember to vacuum under the bed with the help of an attachment. You can also use brush attachments to vacuum baseboards and to better clean the corners of your room.

Make the bed. Now that the dust has literally settled, you can put fresh sheets and pillowcases on your bed. Afterwards, you can retrieve your comforter or duvet and replace that, too.
